A very cordial welcome to the IATSIC website!
As President of the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC), I would like to thank you for visiting our website and express my hope that you will find what you are looking for here.
IATSIC, an affiliate of the International Surgical Society (ISS), was established in 1989 and has grown and developed into the most important international professional association in its field. Its membership comprises trauma surgeons, emergency surgeons, acute-care surgeons and intensivists from every corner of the world.
IATSIC exists primarily for the purposes of communication and education.
Communication via our semiannual meetings during the International Surgical Week (ISW), the World Journal of Surgery, and our website is intended to allow exchange of information and experience among the specialties represented in our target audience, across geopolitical and socioeconomic borders, and between generations.
- The last ISW with IATSIC meeting was held in August, 2011, in Yokohama, Japan. The next ISW, again with a full four-day IATSIC meeting, will be in Helsinki, Finland, in 2013. These meetings cover the full spectrum of trauma and emergency surgery and critical care with top speakers and lively discussions.
- The World Journal of Surgery, published by ISS, includes material from IATSIC as an affiliated society in the form of academic publications and our programs.
- The IATSIC website, which you are currently visiting, is designed for clarity, easy navigation and user comfort. We welcome your feedback and encourage you to link your center, meeting or training program to our website. Please check here regularly for the newest information on the ISW/IATSIC meeting in 2013 as it becomes available.
Education is provided by IATSIC through the media mentioned above, and most importantly, in the form of the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) courses offered regularly throughout the world. These courses must fulfill stringent requirements for accreditation and are taught by internationally recognized experts. In these courses, younger participants can familiarize themselves with emergency surgery and more senior surgeons can update their skills and level of information to the highest standard.
If you are interested in becoming a member of IATSIC, you are welcome to apply online. If you have any problems, contact by e-mail any of the officers or committee chairs listed on the website, who will be glad to assist you with the application process and/or answer any questions about membership.
